  • 3Psychology. An inability to recognize, understand, or interpret mental states (thoughts, beliefs, intentions, etc.) in oneself or others, attributed to persons with autism and related disorders.

Mid 17th century; earliest use found in Samuel Rutherford (c1600–1661), Church of Scotland minister and political theorist. From mind + blindness.
