From miso- + ancient Greek καπνός smoke + -ic, after post-classical Latin Misocapnus, title of James VI & I's Counter-blaste to Tobacco in Bishop Montagu's Latin edition of his works. Compare French misocapnie, Portuguese misocapnia, both in sense ‘hatred of tobacco smoke’.
