  • 2no object To behave in accordance with, or give expression to, a doctrine of pragmatism; to behave, or interpret a situation, etc., pragmatically.

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Thomas Keightley (1789–1872), historian and author. From ancient Greek πραγματ-, πρᾶγμα deed, act + -ize.
