(born 1931), US actor. He has performed in numerous classical and contemporary plays, including Othello (1964) and The Great White Hope (Tony Award, 1969). He has appeared in more than fifty films, including Dr. Strangelove (1964) and Field of Dreams (1989); his distinctive resonant voice was heard in the roles of Darth Vader in Star Wars (1977) and King Mufasa in The Lion King (1994).
