Basedow, originally the name of his school in Dessau from Hellenistic Greek ϕιλανθρώπινον, neuter of ϕιλανθρώπινος (adjective) loving mankind, rare parallel form of ϕιλάνθρωπος, after ἀνθρώπινος human; compare -ine.
