  • A grey to grey-blue mineral consisting of a sulphide of lead, antimony, and arsenic and typically occurring as massive or granular deposits in hydrothermal veins.

Origin

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Edinburgh New Philosophical Journal. From geo- (with reference to antimony, one of the constituent elements, being represented in alchemy by the astrological symbol of the earth) + ancient Greek Κρόνος, the name of the god identified with Saturn + -ite, after Swedish geokronit.
