(born 1940), US poet and writer. He served as US poet laureate 1997–2000. His poetry is collected in volumes such as History of My Heart (1984) and The Figured Wheel: New and Collected Poems, 1966–1996 (1996). His translation of The Inferno of Dante was published in 1994.
