Early 17th century; earliest use found in Samuel Daniel (?1563–1619), poet and historian. From classical Latin rescissōrius concerned with cancelling or annulling (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. a.d.) from resciss-, past participial stem of rescindere + -ōrius.
