An avant-garde artistic movement, chiefly of the 1960s and early 1970s, combining elements of performance art and body art, and typically characterized by the performance of acts of self-mutilation (variously in front of an audience, filmed, or photographed), and the use of blood, excrement, and bodily fluids.
