(1930–2006), US track and field athlete and politician; full name Robert Bruce Mathias. At 17, he was the youngest winner of the decathlon with a gold medal in the 1948 Olympic Games and another in the 1952 games. He later served as a Republican member of the US House of Representatives from California 1967–1975.
