Shortened from post-classical Latin de magna assisa eligenda concerning the selection of a grand assize (lit. ‘concerning a grand assize [which is] to be selected’) from de concerning + magna, ablative singular feminine of magnus great + assisa, ablative singular of assisa + eligenda, ablative singular feminine of gerundive of eligere to select.
